The difference between hydraulic axial piston pump and radial piston pump

The difference between hydraulic axial piston pump and radial piston pump

1、 Working principle of radial piston pump
Radial piston pump is a common hydraulic pump, which is mainly composed of five parts: pressure chamber, plunger, swing rod, rear cover, and flow regulating device. When working, the swing rod fixes the plunger on the rotor, and as the rotor rotates, a pressure difference is formed between the plunger and the pressure chamber, thereby promoting the flow of oil.

2、 Working principle of axial piston pump
Axial piston pump is a hydraulic pump with adjustable flow rate, which is mainly composed of four parts: bearings, axial piston components, cam mechanism, and flow control system. The internal axial plunger component can be driven by a cam to swing the plunger in the axial direction, thereby generating a pressure difference to drive liquid flow and achieve flow control.

3、 The difference between axial piston pump and radial piston pump

A. The difference in working principle: Axial piston pumps use internal axial piston components to swing in the axial direction, generating pressure differences to drive liquid flow and achieve flow control; Radial piston pumps, on the other hand, create a pressure difference between the plunger and the pressure chamber as the rotor rotates, thereby driving the flow of oil.
B. Structural differences: Axial piston pumps have a much more complex internal structure than radial piston pumps, consisting of bearings, axial piston components, cam mechanisms, and flow control systems; The radial piston pump, on the other hand, is much simpler, mainly consisting of a pressure chamber, plunger, swing rod, rear cover, and flow control device.
C. Different application ranges: Axial piston pumps are suitable for hydraulic systems with high flow requirements, such as milling machines, heat treatment equipment, etc; Radial piston pumps are usually selected as propulsion pumps for hydraulic systems when high speed and high power output are required.
